Why are these medicines affordable?

Unlike generics, there is a large cost supplied by the original manufacturer of the brand name drug which includes R&D and marketing. The cost of getting FDA approval adds up heavily to the cost of brand name drugs. Meanwhile, generic drug producers do not have to tender these costs. This means that the cost saving is passed to the consumer.
